Hello everyone, Steel Logic back here with my second mock draft post on here for your beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. This one comes after the big wave of free agency and everything is covered up to this point that most of us expected. The Steelers restructured alot of contracts to get under the cap to cover for Bud Dupree's tag as well as freeing up additional cap for future signings. With that being said, we have Mike Hilton and Matt Feiler back for this season under the restricted second round tender. They kicked things off by signing Fullback Derek Watt, Followed by Tackle Zach Banner, Long Snapper Kameron Canaday, Olineman Stefan Wisniewski, Safety Jordan Dangerfield, Tight End Eric Ebron and Dlineman Chris Wormley (Via Trade with Baltimore). With all of that being said, lets dive right into the mock draft. Round 2 Pick 49 The Pittsburgh Steelers select Interior Olineman Matt Hennessy from Temple. Hennessey is a guy that plays really scrappy and that's the kind of guy you want on the interior. It's like the cement to your house's basement, the finishing touches to the foundation. He comes with a high football IQ, has excellent range and is very technically sound. He'll do any job you ask him to and here's how he would be used. With Foster retiring we have a hole at LG and Hennesey can com in and be a day 1 starter in that spot and have the new guy we just signed be his backup. Hennesey can also play center, so what I would do is have Pouncey take Hennesey under his wing and teach him the ropes so he can be ready to take over at center when Pouncey retires. Round 3 Pick 102 (comp pick) The Pittsburgh Steelers select Wide Receiver Van Jefferson from Florida. Jefferson is a guy that will come in and push James Washington and Deon Cain as the next boundary wide receiver behind Juju and Washington. Jefferson can also play in the slot if need be, and our wide receiver group would be really well rounded with Juju, Johnson, Washington, Jefferson, Cain and Switzer. There's alot Jefferson can add to the group with his measurable's standing at 6'2 200. Round 4 Pick 124 The Pittsburgh Steelers select Safety Brandon Jones from Texas. Very smart player, tackles well in space and packs a punch. He has a very aggressive play style but he is smart and knows what not to do. He can pick up and read defenses pretty well from what Iv'e heard in interviews. He would provide the Steelers with depth at the safety position that we need and he can push Edmunds to play better. Jones is a guy that can play as either a single high safety in a cover 1 or cover 2 or as a dime linebacker when you move Edmunds back deep. Round 4 Pick 135 The Pittsburgh Steelers select Edge Rusher Alton Robinson from Syracuse. Robinson is a guy that has an explosive first step but needs to work on his craft with hand usage and how to bend properly. He has a very high ceiling to learn the necessary things and he would be able to do that in Pittsburgh sitting behind Bud as depth and is a much better option than what we have with Skipper and Ola. Round 6 Pick 198 The Pittsburgh Steelers select Line Backer Tanner Muse from Clemson. Big Bodied safety that would be best suited as a LB at the next level. Muse would take over the role that Tyler Matakevich had on special teams and would be a better LB than Matakevich ever was or will be. Muse has alot of speed and has great range being a converted safety. Steelers also met with Muse at Clemson's pro day and took him to dinner. Round 7 Pick 232 The Pittsburgh Steelers select Dlineman Robert Windsor Penn State. Windsor adds much needed youth to the dline and brings in competition for that starting DT spot with Buggs/Alualu and Wormley. Windsor can also be a backup at end for Tuitt and Heyward, he had alot of productivity while at Penn State and created alot of problems in the backfield. He has a very high motor and would help the front seven in terms of stopping the run and that's what this team needs playing in the AFC North.
Steel Logic here with my very first post on here. Kicking it off with a mock draft post scouting combine. As most of you should know, the Steelers don't hold a first round pick as they used it to trade for Minkah Fitzpatrick. With the 49th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft the Pittsburgh Steelers Select, Denzel Mims wide receiver Baylor. Mims is a big bodied athletic wide receiver that gives you a jump ball guy on the outside that our current group of guys don't have. Personally I think he comes in as the number 3 but will be the starter opposite of Juju, Diontae in the slot, with Washington and Cain as backups. All four of those guys you can move around. With the expectation of a 3rd round comp pick from Le'Veon Bell, with that comp pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Cam Akers running back Florida State. Akers is a guy that made his way into the top 5 running backs in this year's class with a strong showing at the combine that backed up his film. He has great footwork, breakaway speed and he can pack a punch. He would come in being a great combo with Conner and Snell and eventually I think Akers can make his way to RB1. Nice fall back plan if we can't meet common grounds on extending Conner. With there first of two picks in round 4, the Pittsburgh Steelers select, Albert Okwuegbubam tight end Mizzou. Albert O or Albert woah, has alot of athletic ability for a big guy. Running an official 4.49 40 really shows his RAC ability and you can see that on film. We finally get our TE of the future and to start of his career, he would be TE2 behind either Vance McDonald or Nick Vannett. With there second pick in round 4, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Damien Lewis Guard LSU Very solid and technically sound run blocker that would slide into the starting LG if Foster leaves. He would be an excellent puller when asked to and he is extremely underrated in terms of a pass blocker. Would add nice youth at a position that we need to get younger.
There's a lot of buzz going around the Steelers running back position. With James Conner coming into the final year of his rookie deal and his obvious issues, his days in the black and gold could be numbered. Steelers drafted Benny Snell out of Kentucky in the 4th round last year. Although the potential is there, he's just now known as a power back. And Jaylen Samuels is purely a backup. Although it definitely seems the Steelers need a new and a confident starting RB, the talent at the position could prevent the Steelers from drafting the position in this year's upcoming draft in Vegas. What if they don't address RB this year? Should they look at someone in FA? Should they wait a year to address RB? Will they have enough confidence in Conner too stay healthy? Let me know what yinz think about that? Keep in mind, it's very possible we skip RB.
